The numbers, apples with apples. China 2025: microdramas $9.4 billion, cinema box office $7.3 billion. The format won by $2 billion in cinema's best year since the pandemic. Globally: microdramas $11 billion in 2025, roughly $26 billion by 2030, compounding 28% a year against a $34 billion box office stuck below its pre-pandemic peak. Rivals by 2030, crossover early 2030s. Honest scale: $26 billion is still pocket money next to Netflix's $45 billion alone. This is not conquest. It is a format born in 2020 outgrowing a 130-year-old industry's box office within 15 years.
The money and the talent already voted. Paramount swallowed Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion. The deal closed on 6 October 2026, and the combined company is now Skydance. Netflix walked from an $83 billion Warner bid and paid $587 million for Ben Affleck's AI studio a week later. Disney paid OpenAI $1 billion. Kardashian and Jenner invested, Issa Rae's microdrama hit 75 million views in a week, the creators of The Bachelor and American Idol are shooting verticals for Google.
